At the Arc of Katy, the exit out the back of the building didn’t have a walkway that was accessible to anyone needing a wheelchair or other assistance. Ethan extended the walkway at the door and connecting with the walkway at the side edge of the building. The day before the start of the project we found out there was a sprinkler system running along the existing sidewalk edge. Luckily, the water line was deep enough that we wouldn’t disturb it but we had to cut the pavers in a way that wouldn’t cover up the sprinkler heads. The project took all weekend. Saturday night it was supposed to rain so we covered up the area as best we could with tarps. As you can see from the pictures, the tarps didn’t help much. Water soaked in from the sides through the grass. We had to scrape off the wet sand and put dry sand underneath each paver as we laid them down and leveled them. The Arc of Katy was very pleased with this project. Congratulations Ethan on making a lasting impact in your community!
